In Fiji, employment in agriculture represents 36% of persons of working age. This is a reversal of the decline observed over the last two decades and may reflect a return to agricultural activities during the pandemic. Agriculture continues to play an important role in the growth and development of most Pacific Island Countries and Territories.

This week is the Pacific Week of Agriculture and Pacific Agriculture and Forestry Ministers and Heads will meet in person for the first time in four years to boost the region’s agriculture and forest sectors. The regional meeting of the Pacific Heads of Agriculture and Forestry Services and companion joint Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the Pacific Community (SPC) Agriculture and Forestry Ministerial meeting is the most important event on the agriculture and forestry calendar.
