This month, we are excited to introduce two outstanding researchers from our peer review team.
Dr Shalendra Prasad
Dr Shalendra Prasad is the Director of the Crop Research Division in Fiji's Ministry of Agriculture, a role that highlights his extensive expertise in postharvest handling and losses, horticulture crop production, and seed production, with a remarkable career spanning over 30 years.
Dr Prasad's leadership extends to his position as the Chief Editor for the Fiji Agriculture Journal (FAJ), and he also serves as the Vice Chair for the International Tropical Fruits Network (TFNet). His commitment to agricultural advancement is further demonstrated by his involvement in the Executive Council for the Asia Pacific Association for Agriculture Research Institutes (APAARI). Internationally recognised, Dr Prasad has represented Fiji in numerous symposiums, and seminars, contributing to a broad range of scientific committees. Currently, he coordinates four international government projects in Fiji and holds the esteemed position of Justice of Peace.
Impact:
Dr Prasad has made significant contributions to agricultural research and development in Fiji. His dedication is evident in his various roles, including Registrar of Pesticides, National Representative to the Regional Agreement for Research and Cooperation for the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), and President of the Fiji Institute for Agriculture Science (FIAS).
Dr Julie Grandgirard
Dr Julie Grandgirard is a distinguished Agricultural Entomologist with a Doctorate in Biology, specialising in entomology, green manure, agroecology, and biological control.
As an Entomologist Engineer at the Department of Agriculture in French Polynesia, Dr Grandgirard leads biological control programmes aimed at managing crop pests. Her research focuses on the study of insect species, examining their occurrence, distribution, and control measures within the context of French Polynesia.
Dr Grandgirard's expertise extends to project management in entomology, chemical ecology, and biological control, making her a valuable asset in her field. She actively participates in responding to project calls and contributes to the scientific community through her publications in peer-reviewed journals.
Impact:
Her work has led to significant advancements in agricultural entomology, particularly in the development and implementation of sustainable pest management strategies. Dr Grandgirard's dedication and contributions have not only advanced the field but also positively impacted agricultural practices in French Polynesia.
