The Pacific Community (SPC) is hosting a hybrid panel discussion on the theme "Empowering Women in Maritime: Training, Visibility, Recognition".

This year is the first International Maritime Organisation (IMO) proclaimed International Day for Women in Maritime (ID4WIM) to be celebrated globally. The 32nd session of the IMO Assembly adopted Resolution A.1170 (32) on "International Day for Women in Maritime" proclaiming the 18 May every year as the International Day for Women in Maritime (ID4WIM).

This Day celebrates women in the industry and promotes the recruitment, retention, and sustained employment of women in the maritime sector, raising the profile of women in maritime, strengthening everyone's commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 5 (gender equality) and supports work to address the current gender imbalance in the maritime sector.
