Pacific Week of Agriculture & Forestry (PWAF) Side Event :

Coconut Rhinoceros Beetle (CRB) Management in the Pacific and Mapping of Future Needs

Date: Tuesday, 7 March 2023

Time: 1.30 pm -4.30 pm

About the event:

The Coconut Rhinoceros Beetle (CRB) and its impact on livelihoods and potential income opportunities have been raised by many Pacific Countries, including in the last Pacific Heads of Agriculture and Forestry Meeting.

This side event is a chance for us to talk with heads and their delegates to understand the nature of CRB within their country, understand their priorities for their coconut industries, and the management of CRB.

There will be a range of responses, from those fighting to keep CRB from entering their borders to those wanting education and help for plantation owners.

The event will allow participants to hear about our current knowledge of CRB based on work completed in our partner countries and highlight priorities and needs for CRB in potential new countries.

The Pacific Community (SPC) currently manages the NZ-funded Pacific Awareness and Response to Coconut Rhinoceros Beetle (PARC) project at its Land Resources Division.
