Stat of the week: In Vanuatu, the youth literacy rate (15–24 years) is 94%

Our stat of the week relates to Sustainable Development Goal 4: Quality Education.

In Vanuatu, the youth literacy rate (15–24 years) is 94%, while the adult literacy rate (15+ years) is 88%.

These figures highlight strong progress in education for young people, yet show that some adults still face challenges in accessing literacy opportunities. Part of this difference can be explained by literacy levels among older adults, as only 73% of those aged 65 and above are literate.

Ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education for all remains key to empowering communities and supporting sustainable development.
