Across the Pacific, 7 countries have fully implemented a national strategy addressing noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) and their key risk factors.
Noncommunicable diseases—such as cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, cancer and chronic respiratory diseases—remain a leading cause of premature mortality in the Pacific. Having a fully implemented national NCD strategy is a critical step to strengthen health systems, reduce preventable deaths and promote healthier lifestyles.
This indicator, used in the Blue Pacific 2050 Dashboard, highlights progress made by some countries, while also underlining the need to accelerate action across the region to ensure no one is left behind.
