Green news: Kiribati leads the way in sustainable energy: introducing the modernised energy act!

The Kiribati government has recently adopted the modernized Energy Act, a groundbreaking legal and regulatory framework to support the sustainable growth of the energy sector.

To facilitate the effective transition to the new Act, the Regional Pacific Nationally Determined Contributions Hub (NDC Hub) and the Pacific Community (SPC) held a three-day training session from 13th to 15th March. Key stakeholders were provided with the skills and knowledge needed to ensure a successful implementation to new practices. Energy efficiency is key to achieving the ambitions set out in NDCs announced under the Paris Agreement after COP21. On a global scale, mandatory energy efficiency policies and regulations such as energy performance standards have already resulted in significant energy and emissions savings.
