Andre’s commitment to championing gender equality in the Pacific

Andre Fatiaki

Meet Andre Fatiaki, a recently recruited team member with the Pacific Women Lead at the Pacific Community (PWL at SPC) programme, Human Rights and Social Development (HRSD) division.

Andre's journey with PWL at SPC marks an inspiring commitment to gender equality, both personally and professionally.

Outside his professional life, Andre has a competitive spirit when it comes to outdoor activities and sports such as squash.

Andre’s love for sport began in his childhood, with some of his earliest memories centred around playing squash with his mother, who introduced him to the sport.

Beyond squash, Andre enjoys other outdoor activities like rugby, where his values of camaraderie and teamwork were shaped.

Andre’s love for family is a core part of who he is. As a father to three daughters, he cherishes the time spent with them, whether it’s taking trips to the park, reading stories, or simply enjoying quality moments together.

His bond with his daughters plays a significant role in his life, as he strives to set a positive example for them.

Although new to the gender equality space, he has embraced this unique challenge as an opportunity to develop expertise while working towards his personal goal of contributing to a more equitable Pacific.

Motivated by a personal goal to contribute toward gender equality and the potential impact on his daughters' futures, Andre’s decision to join PWL reflects his deep desire to make meaningful strides in improving gender equality for all.

A Programme Officer with PWL at SPC, Andre’s journey began in 2015 as an intern within SPC’s Land Resource Division. Since then, he has worn many hats—from research assistant to project manager—gaining valuable experience at SPC and the British High Commission.

Before working in the development sector, Andre trained as a veterinarian, where he specialised in animal science. Through his internship with SPC’s Land Resource Division he made an intentional career pivot to development and to serving the people of the Pacific.

Andre believes the only barriers in life are the ones we create for ourselves. When asked what he wanted to accomplish here at PWL at SPC, Andre said

“My time at PWL at SPC has taught me to understand diverse perspectives, and I am committed to championing gender equality, not just for today, but for generations to come. I want to contribute towards an equitable society for my family and the people of the Pacific.”

Guided by his passion and supported by his family, Andre aims to make a lasting impact in the gender equality space, both professionally and personally.
