2020 World Round of Population and Housing Censuses Pacific Island countries’ census planning meeting

Pacific National Statisticians, Census Commissioners/Directors, in-country Census Data Users, as well as invited technical assistance providers, and development partners have been invited to attend and participate in the 2020 Round Population and Housing Census Planning meeting being held at the Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC) in Noumea, New Caledonia, from 27 to 31 July 2015.

Purpose

  1. Plan for a successful conduct of the 2020 round of population and housing censuses in the Pacific
  2. Ensure that census content covers important core questions recommended at the International level for easy comparisons across countries and geographies.
  3. Ensure that the 2020 round of censuses collect data that are relevant to national, regional and international policy, planning and reporting requirements.
  4. Facilitate small working groups to discuss technical challenges, problems and issues experienced in the 2010 round censuses, and plan for improvements in the 2020 round censuses.

Expected Outcome

A meeting report documenting the summary of sessions in each part as well as recommendations for the 2020 round censuses would be produced and circulated for endorsement by participants on the last day of the meeting.
