Regional Education Finance Data Workshop

Pacific governments have committed to implement the Education 2030 Framework for Action. Among the actions under this action plan is the progressive increase in funding of their education systems. The commitment specifies a minimum commitment of between 4-6 per cent of their gross domestic product (GDP), or at least 15-20 per cent of their total public expenditure. This commitment also requires these governments to meet certain reporting obligations. One of this is the reporting of quality and timely education finance statistics to the UNESCO Institute for Statistics (UIS). The finance data is essential for the monitoring of this commitment at the national, regional and international levels.

The EQAP four-day training jointly conducted with USI will support this effort. This is the third in a series of trainings on education data, and is focused on training country participants to produce timely and quality education data that enables the calculation of education finance indicators for the monitoring of the Education 2030 Agenda and Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4).

This workshop, funded by the Australian Government (DFAT), will help to build the overall statistical capacity of education statisticians in the Pacific. Previous workshops were focussed on the harmonisation and standardisation of education microdata and the improvement of the policy environment for the production of education statistics.
