Palu-ahi fishing is a modern Hawaiian version of the traditional drop-stone fishing. It also uses chum to attract fish to a baited hook. The key difference with dropstone is that a square piece of cloth is used instead of a leaf, and a flat-shaped lead weight replaces the stone sinker. Unlike in drop-stone fishing, the sinker is not released while fishing.
