"We saw that night time spear fishing is a destructive fishing practice as it depletes fish stocks very fast". These were the words of Josaia Matavura, the Liuliu ni Bose Vanua o Kabara, whilst speaking on our Qoli Vakamatau Talk Back Radio Show on Radio Fiji One. The Bose Vanua o Lau endorsed a new ban on night time spear fishing last week. A direct action to help revive fishing grounds in the Lau Province. This is the first of its kind in Fiji, for a province to ban night time spear fishing. Matavura, the Roko Sau kei Totoya, Roko Jiosefa Cinavilakeba, and Semisi Meo of Conservation International were guests on the show today discussing the details of the ban.
